Otoplasty

Otoplasty, or pinnaplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the ears to correct prominence or asymmetry, creating a more balanced and natural appearance. It is commonly performed to improve self-confidence and restore ear symmetry.

What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty, also known as pinnaplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the ears, often to correct prominent ears or improve symmetry. Prominent ears can result from a lack of natural folds in the cartilage and may make one or both ears appear more noticeable, which can affect self-confidence, particularly in children.

During an otoplasty, the surgeon typically makes a small incision in the natural crease behind the ear, reshapes or removes cartilage as needed, and uses stitches to reposition the ear closer to the head. The procedure restores natural folds and creates a balanced, proportionate appearance. In your initial consultation, the surgeon will dis

Why Otoplasty is Performed

Otoplasty is considered by individuals who want to improve the appearance of their ears and boost self-confidence. Common reasons include:

Ears that stick out too far from the head

Ears that appear disproportionately large

Correcting asymmetry between the two ears

Dissatisfaction with the results of a previous ear surgery

Desire for a more balanced and natural overall appearance

The procedure is often done on both ears to create symmetry. While otoplasty enhances the shape, position, and proportion of the ears, it does not change their location on the head or affect hearing.

Who is Suitable for a Otoplasty?

Otoplasty can be an option for both children and adults who want to improve the shape, position, or symmetry of their ears. It is generally suitable for:

Prominent ears: Individuals bothered by ears that stick out too far from the head.

Asymmetry or deformity: One or both ears have an unusual shape due to birth defects or natural variation.

Injury-related changes: Ears that have changed shape following trauma or accidents.

Age considerations: Children aged 4–6 and older, as well as adults, once the ears have reached full size.

For infants with certain ear-shape issues, non-surgical splinting may be an alternative in the first few weeks of life when the ears are still soft and moldable.

Otoplasty Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about otoplasty surgery

What is otoplasty?

Otoplasty, also known as pinnaplasty, is a surgical procedure that reshapes the ears to correct prominence, asymmetry, or deformities, creating a more balanced and natural appearance.

Who is suitable for otoplasty?

Otoplasty is suitable for children aged 4–6 and older adults whose ears have reached full size. It is commonly done for prominent ears, asymmetrical ears, deformities from birth, or ear changes due to injury.

How is otoplasty performed?

During otoplasty, the surgeon makes small incisions behind the ears, reshapes or removes cartilage as needed, and uses stitches to reposition the ears closer to the head. The procedure restores natural folds and symmetry.

Is otoplasty painful?

Otoplasty is usually performed under local or general anesthesia, and pain is managed with prescribed medications. Mild discomfort and tightness around the ears are normal during the first few days of recovery.

What is the recovery time for otoplasty?

Most patients return to normal daily activities within 1–2 weeks. Full healing, including the fading of swelling and bruising, typically takes 6–8 weeks, while the final ear shape is seen after a few months.

Will otoplasty leave scars?

Incisions are made in the natural crease behind the ear, leaving minimal visible scarring. With proper care, scars fade over time and are usually well hidden.

Are the results of otoplasty permanent?

Yes, otoplasty provides long-lasting results. The ears retain their new shape and position permanently, though natural aging may cause minor changes over time.

Can otoplasty be performed on children?

Yes, children can undergo otoplasty once their ears are near full size, usually around 4–6 years old. Early correction can prevent teasing and improve self-confidence.

"

I was very concerned about my breast implant removal and the shape I would be left with. I opted for a removal and an uplift. I love the look of my breasts after the operation. They have a great shape and I feel so confident about my new look. I was also concerned about the scarring but that seems to be fading relatively quickly. An amazing surgeon he put me at ease throughout and I wish I had done this sooner. If I were to have further surgery I would go back to Andrej.

I am incredibly pleased with the outstanding care and expertise Maria Chasapi has brought to my surgery. From the initial consultation to the final follow-up, her professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail were second to none. She took the time to understand my goals, explained every step with clarity, and made me feel completely at ease throughout the process. The results have exceeded my expectations—not just aesthetically, but in how confident and comfortable I now feel.

Mr Salibi listened to my concerns, he explained the procedure in great detail and answered my list of questions. His persona, his calmess, his reassurance left me feeling at ease and I was so eager to have my tummy tuck after years of hiding my body under smocks and over shirts. I am now six weeks post op and cannot stop smiling... My scar is so neat, so perfect and is healing exceptionally well. My body confidence has returned and I cannot thank My Salibi enough for working his magic.
